Fast Ethernet - The Next Step In High Speed Lan Services

Most enterprises today use Ethernet based Lan solutions. Invariably all of them have the newest fast Ethernet solutions in their Lans. While this is a norm today, it was not that uncomplicated all way. The Lan technologies have come a long way from the earliest uncomplicated implementations to the contemporary day high speed solutions.

The first Lan implementations were based on the same Ethernet belief but used a coaxial cable instead. The main backbone was a high grade coaxial cable which was thick adequate to enlarge adequate to connect a handful of computers and allow them to communicate. Since the focus was more on connectivity than the speeds, the traditional Lan speeds were nearby 2 Mbps to 5 Mbps.

High Bandwidth

This transformed fully when coaxial cables were substituted by unshielded twisted pairs or the Utp cables. These were more flexible along the corners which was a big relief from the coaxial cables which did not bend well at the sharp corners. This verily changed the manner in which Lan networks were built and connected.

To complement the Utp cable the Ethernet Lan was now implemented with new devices called hubs. The hubs are similar to the coaxial cables where there is a bus and all ports on the devices are basically drops from this bus. The advantage of hub though was that the computers could be linked at a longer length from the bus. There was no need to run the bus or coaxial cable throughout the rooms. It could be in a central location and all computers linked to it.

Both these evolutions came about straight through a new acceptable termed as the 10 Base T. This was a new flavour of the already beloved Ethernet. This one extended the Lan to longer length and also increased the speeds to 10 Mbps. eventually with the growing popularity of hubs, new devices called switches came into the market. These allowed the typically half duplex Lan networks to become full duplex, doubling the capacity.

With all the Lan evolutions there was new breed of bandwidth applications and more computers started getting added into the network. Now there was need for a boost in bandwidth. This is where Fast Ethernet got standardized.

Today many enterprises have exclusively Fast Ethernet networks. The switches too evolved to maintain fast Ethernet ports bringing in the benefits of high speed with full duplex operations. This has truly changed the enterprise Lan landscape.

What is the bandwidth in web hosting services?

Bandwidth is the measure of data transfer or "traffic" flowing transferred to your computer and send information from a website. It can be measured by volume multiplied by the size of the files on your web page.

A web site can be built very small or large, depending on the size of the text and the number and quality of images within the site. So if you just text on Web pages are small files are transferred to the browserthe person viewing the page, and therefore more traffic, bandwidth is smaller in number received. Web pages with pictures and videos get less traffic due to large file sizes transferred to the viewer's browser. How much bandwidth is actually needed depends on the package web hosting. As the bandwidth available to host much of the price depends on the hosting package.

Since they usually have the bandwidth for hostingRequirements measured in months, it must refer to a monthly estimate of the range is in need to your website. Generally hosting companies will charge a higher user fees if you go over the bandwidth of the package that came with. If you know what you do with your website and what is the purpose of your website, you should be able to predict how much bandwidth you would need. For a beginner it is best to start with a verybasic web hosting package with little emphasis on bandwidth. How do you get traffic to start slowly and get an idea, the band, you can negotiate with the host package for a high bandwidth.

Tips to Choose Web Hosting Services

Web hosting is considered to be the business practice for providing bandwidth and space on a computer server which is high-powered and connected to the internet at high speed. It is a well known fact that hosting companies have to maintain large networks of various high-powered web servers at the physical locations which are known as data centers. The data centers have a high speed connection to the internet, primary and backup power and the security checking staff. Some of the hosting necessities are as follows:

Server and hardware necessities:

If you are planning to put up a new website for your business, firstly, the programming situations including Visual Basic Scripts, Active Server Pages (ASP), and MSSQL must be there. It is necessary that the web hosting service must be able to support Windows display places including Windows 2000 servers or Windows NT.

Bandwidth and disk space requirements

There is another necessity for web hosting which is bandwidth and disk space. If your website does not have heavy JPEG image files and content, the disk space requirements will be different than from the video sharing and music websites. The space required up to 200 MB to 500MB disk space is enough in that case. But in case of music and video sharing websites, the minimum requirement is up to 500 MB to 1000 MB.

Generally online video sites will have to upload heavy files of movies and TV series. If they use a shared shared hosting, it might make the site very slow. These sites have to go for a dedicated hosting which is very costly.

The bandwidth of the website depends upon the probable visitors visiting the website. Heavy traffic websites needs more bandwidth than the one which do not have many visitors. In that case you can opt for 40GB to 100GB bandwidth in providing hosting services.
